Who is Erol Urgun?
He was born in Karşıyaka, İzmir in 1963.
After attending Karşıyaka Kazım Dirik Primary School and Karşıyaka Havva Özişbakan Secondary School, he graduated from Bursa Işıklar Military High School in 1981. In the same year he graduated, his poem won first prize in a poetry competition held to commemorate Atatürk's 100th birthday.
He graduated from the Turkish Military Academy in 1985 as a Lieutenant, ranking second in the Engineering class.
He graduated from the Engineering School in 1985-1986, ranking 3rd. While attending the Engineering School Officer Basic Course, his poem, which won first prize in a competition held at the end of 1985, was adopted as the anthem of the Engineering class, which previously had no composed or sung anthem. It was set to music by Staff Lieutenants A. Haluk OĞAN and Semih GÖNÜLLÜ, who were also serving in the same unit. For 41 years, it has continued to be sung at oath ceremonies and training for soldiers, and at diploma ceremonies and training sessions for the Engineering School.
After serving for seven years in a unit affiliated with the Military Academy and two years in Patnos, he voluntarily left his position in the Turkish Armed Forces in 1995.
He worked as a manager in the company he founded until 2012, then retired after handing over the reins to the new generation. During this period, from 2004 to 2011, he volunteered as a project and implementation manager on behalf of Salih İşgören in public works commissioned by philanthropists Nevvar and Salih İşgören.
Between 2015 and 2017, she served as a manager at the Nevvar Salih İşgören Foundation, carrying out public service projects on behalf of philanthropists.
On February 8, 2017, he voluntarily resigned from his managerial duties and handed over the reins to the new generation.
In 2022, the poem he wrote won an award in the Republic's 100th Anniversary Anthem lyrics competition organized by Çekmeköy Municipality under the coordination of the Presidency's Communications Directorate.
He participated in the composition competition, which was the second stage of the same competition, with a work for which he wrote both the lyrics and the music.
In 2023, she participated in the Republic's 100th Anniversary Anthem lyrics competition organized by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality.
